DVLA Contact 01

Had a call from the DVLA today, confirming that they have received my application and needed the following additional information:

  • Copy of a recent utility bill as proof of address (the DVLA website said that a photocopy of my driving licence was sufficient but obviously not!)
  • From V267 - Declaration that a vehicle is new (again the website states this is required when importing a vehicle)
Emailed the above to kar@dvla.gsi.gov.uk

IVA Pass!

Whoop, whoop the lovely chap at the IVA test center has passed my car and given me a bright Individual Approval Certificate (IAC). I was at the test center for a whole 50 minutes!
Once again took a couple of sneaky photos at the test center - so don't tell anyone.

Then it was onto the registration process - three hours of paperwork later I've popped the following in the post to the DVLA:

  • V55/4 Form
  • Photo-copy of Driving Licence
  • Cheque for first registration & 6 months road tax
  • Individual Approval Certificate (IAC)
  • Certificate of Motor Insurance (against chassis number with place-holder registration)
  • Built up vehicle report Form – V627/1
    • Supporting Original Receipts / Invoices
    • Westfield Sports Cars Starter Kit Price List (to demonstrate kit contents)
  • Photos as evidence of self-build
The clock is now ticking to see if the registration comes back before the weather closes in.

IVA 2nd Retest Booked

Booked for September 26th @ 8:00am.......

Mods Pre 2nd IVA

Emissions:
Spoke to Omex again - this time they sent me a manual to help with the specifics of ITB throttle setup of the Zetec 2.0. This required adjustment of the throttle body air bypass screws at idle using a synchrometer to measure air flow to circa 5kg/h per pot. Followed my an adjustment of the main idle screw (all four cylinders) until the Spark Feedback is hovering around 0˚ and Fuel Feedback is fluctuating between -2% and -6%.
I also ensured that all the manifold (inlet and outlet) and exhaust bolts were tight and there was no sign of any leakage

Handbrake:
Further adjusted the handbrake pads, they are now as tight as I can get them while still being able to turn the rear wheels by hand.

I took the car back to a local MOT station and both elements passed so hopefully ......................

IVA Failure - Again

Failure Again!

  • Emissions were much better but still too high
  • Parking brake power still wasn't strong enough

Running out of time before the summer holiday!

Sunday 3 July 2016

IVA Mods

  • Emissions were too high  - Omex sent a new calibration map / Lamda probe, also replaced plugs, leads and coil pack to cure misfire, checked at local MOT garage.
  • Exhaust noise was above the 99db threshold - hopefully connected to above emissions and misfire
  • Parking brake needs adjusting as there's too much travel on the handbrake and the braking power wasn't strong enough - adjusted (this involved removing tunnel carpet)
  • Speedo was over reading - adjusted pulse setting to -15% of 'correct' setting
  • Full beam headlight on one side wasn't changing over properly (sticky solenoid) - cleaned solenoid and adjusted lights at local MOT garage
  • Gear box earth cable not connected
  • Rear view mirror vibrates - replaced mirror with dash mounted one
  • Starter motor electrical connections require rubber terminal boots - covered

Hopefully this is enough to satisfy the tested - re-test booked for Monday 11th July

IVA Test Day

I had to be at the Southampton test centre at 8.00 so I set of at 7.00, it was raining so I had a damp, chilly drive in.

Unfortunately the car failed on number of counts including:

  • Emissions were too high
  • Exhaust noise was above the 99db threshold
  • Parking brake needs adjusting as there's too much travel on the handbrake and the braking power wasn't strong enough
  • Speedo was over reading
  • Full beam headlight on one side wasn't changing over properly (sticky solenoid)
  • Gear box earth cable not connected
  • Rear view mirror vibrates
  • Starter motor electrical connections require rubber terminal boots

You're not allowed to take photos in the centre so please don't tell anyone.
